
It’s hard to keep an open mind. I just know what’s going to happen, right?
The teenager is sure everyone will stare, because it’s a bad hair day.
The spouse interrupts you in a heated conversation because “we’ve been through this over and over and you always” (fill in the blank).
Sometimes we’re correct and the unpleasant things happen.
But the truth is, once in a while we’re mistaken, and the negative thing we were so sure of we’d bet our life on it… wasn’t. Or we were wrong about the intent behind the words spoken to us.
If you want things to get better, you must Be Here, Now. This conversation, this day.
It’s hard to set aside assumptions, especially when they’ve been right sometimes.
But it’s the only way.
